Sometimes when life gets you down,
and leaves you with a frown,
when it seems like all is lost,
and your world is in chaos,
You need to lift your head up high,
and not droop your shoulders with a sigh.
Put a smile on until it becomes real,
or write a poem, it helps me deal.
Pour out your feelings through ink on paper,
with ideas of mysterie and secret capers.
Stories of princes on a magnificent horse.
After all this, if you still feel bad,
try brainstorming and then write when you're sad,
Write about nightmares or fantasies galore,
Write about imagining yourself in Indian folklore.
Or how about when you're furious one day,
and you wihsed that one person would just go away.
Write about spells and chants that will surely ignite,
Just like how your anger and fireworks
share the same light.
Whether you're angry, happy, or sad,
Write about it until you feel glad.
It's how I get rid of all the stress,
of wanting things that end up on press.
So you see now, it's not all that bad,
Writing can sometimes make you feel glad.
Don't judge such a wonderful thing,
Try it until it makes you want to sing.
Take my advice, it's worth it you'll see,
That poetry can truly set you free.
This was written in Mrs. Matsumoto's English class in eighth grade at Moanalua Middle. I have no idea what it was for, and I know the rhyming is lame.
