Staying Comfy Created: 02/16/2005
Weekends are for pj's and bunny slippers, or shorts and a tank top for the beach. I walk down the halls of school, comfortable in jeans and a sweater, my backpack thumping softly against my back. Girls in my classes - clad in Roxy and Abercrombie, with Chanel bags slung over their shoulders. Suddenly my sweater is too baggy, my blue Jansport bag too big. In my mind I see their eyes staring as I walk past - burning a hole through my sweater, creating a gap between us. That gap is more like a gorge of a canyon, It's mouth yawning wide, ready to eat me should I give in. But a smile from another pair of jeans and a sweater bars the mouth with a bridge. I cross over to the other side where pj's and bunny slippers await.
This was for an English challenge of "Time Now," or writing about times passed. I think it was trying to capture your present physical image along with a present fear. This one was edited several times.
